Hi Jaynie,
What resolution was that TIF? Did she scan in grayscale? If the background
was adjusted to be close to pure white, a grayscale document compressed via
tiff should be pretty small. This form of compression creates a pixel map
that elliminates the need to save redundant-color pixels. If there are
only black and white pixels (and like my hair, maybe a few stray grays)
then that should be a compact file. If the background has lots of
modulating grays (or worse, yellows and such as RGB) this would balloon the
file size greatly. Finally, experimenting with resolution will possible
offer a better size/clarity factor. Unless one will need to zoom in to the
document, 72 DPI should suffice.
