That would have been my suggestion. But yes, if the printer mis-feeds when
printing the even sides then you are out. A *semi-automated* way would be
to print the odd sides as a unit. Review the output to make sure that no
pages stuck together. Then the semi part. Feed the even pages a few at a
time. You can ask for specific pages (ie. 2, 4, 6, 8). This way if a page
misfeeds then the damages are limited.
