I'd like to know how everyone else handles the need for digital scans.
I've
been calling around and I'm more confused now than I was when I started!
One
place only does them from a drum -- cost starting at $250 each which is
way
past my budget. Also, I work in gouache that sometimes get thick in
places
and might crack if it was wrapped around a drum.
My client needs the scan to be at least 300 dpi -- I found a place
with a
digital camera that can scan from slides and can go up to 9600 dpi -- but
he
needs to know the dimensions needed -- e.g. 4" x 5." The scan has to be
good
enough for eventual reproduction of a work that is approximately 20" x
25".
Each scan would cost $25 plus the cost of the CD or zip.
Now I'm wondering about purchasing a digital camera and doing the
scans
myself. I've found a place locally that sells a Sony with a removable
disk
for $700. But I would hate to invest that much money without knowing if
the
scans would be of the necessary quality for my purposes -- Any comments?
Thanks,
Sandy
