Hello all,
I am new to this list so firstly I'd like to introduce myself. I am an
Australian biologist who has recently returned to a former career in
freelance illustrating/ cartooning, after several years working as a
scientist in academia and government. My previous commercial illustrating
activities were >10 years ago, and I kind of missed out on the digital
revolution back then... but fortunately as a scientist I was able to learn
Photoshop etc, to use in illustrating my own work. I have enjoyed reading
the postings on this list so far, and wish fervently that I could come to
the upcoming meeting and workshops, but geography conspires against me!

I am now doing my first commercial job in ages, and I am not sure whether
RGB or CMYK mode is more appropriate for colour illustrations? The client
wants to use the images in a variety of media, including on-screen
presentations, web, printed material and embroidered baseball caps. I don't
yet know what kind of printer they are planning to use (possibly a variety
- eg a commercial printer for flyers, but an office inkjet for stationery).
I am using Photoshop version 4.0.

If I need to use both formats (eg RGB for web and CMYK for print), how do I
make sure the colours in the various finished products will match? Is it
better to convert from CMYK to RGB or the other way around? Sorry if these
are very ignorant questions - lately I've worked mostly in RGB and
grayscale. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Meri
