Up here the eagles are hanging around the St. John River so I know the ice will break any day now and the eagles will have a good time fishing and feasting on the occasional deer carcass that comes down in the ice flow. Awesome to see ice chunks as big as Volkswagons tumbling down the river. I'm in a more primitive area than Linda, and moose are neighbors year round. This area used to be called Moosetown, I'm told, and in the old days when there was a population to count they would dunk visitors in the river and "baptize" them honorary Moosetowners. I wonder if that is true? The librarian says it is. No ermine here, but otters folic across my pond and the eagles are busy.
