That's a terrible and sad irony to have excessive flooding in one part of the country and excessive drought in another, and loss of life in both.

Like Will we are in Brisbane and are safe and relatively cool (currently 80 degrees F at 10.30 pm!). The floods in Ingham in the north of our state are about 900 miles north http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/02/09/2486297.htm and the Victorian bushfires are about 1000 miles south. http://www.abc.net.au/news/events/bushfires/ Our hearts go out to all the poor people who have lost loved ones and their houses. The death toll continues to rise as more houses are searched.
There is also the sad story of the little boy probably taken by a crocodile at his family’s property on the Daintree River. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/02/09/2486157.htm That family’s “River Train” sightseeing boats are a familiar sight on the river. We were in the area last May. Several people were also drowned earlier in the flooding.
I have emailed Mali but Victoria is on daylight saving time and she has probably gone to bed. I am heading that way myself.
A bushfire victims appeal, mainly run by Australian Red Cross has already raised $7 million Aussie dollars but more is needed.
Thanks for all your kind thoughts.

Thanks for thinking of Aussies in this difficult time. In the north of my state of Queensland much damage is being caused by floods at the same time that the Southern state of Victoria is being ravaged by bushfires.  Thankfully the floods haven’t been accompanied by the large loss of lives that has occurred in the bush fires.
Cheers,

Hello to our Australian GNSI Friends-
I'm sure I can speak for the entire Guild in saying that we are all so sorry to hear about the devastating wildfires Australia is experiencing, and hope you and yours are all well and safe. We understand the collective shock when a nation is faced with that level of destruction and loss of life, and we are hoping it all will come to an end soon for you.

With regards,
Gail
