There is also the sad story of the little boy probably taken by a crocodile at his family’s property on the Daintree River. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/02/09/2486157.htm That family’s “River Train” sightseeing boats are a familiar sight on the river. We were in the area last May. Several people were also drowned earlier in the flooding. I have emailed Mali but Victoria is on daylight saving time and she has probably gone to bed. I am heading that way myself.
A bushfire victims appeal, mainly run by Australian Red Cross has already raised $7 million Aussie dollars but more is needed.

Thanks for thinking of Aussies in this difficult time. In the north of my state of Queensland much damage is being caused by floods at the same time that the Southern state of Victoria is being ravaged by bushfires. Thankfully the floods haven’t been accompanied by the large loss of lives that has occurred in the bush fires.
