I send this to Dorie alone. Mistake. Doing a further search on internet I noticed that starting with the Egyptians could be a great way to start if I would narrow it down to anatomical illustration. And then via the Greeks, medieval surgeons and then via Andreas Vesalius’ De Humani Corporis Fabrica, Da Vinci and Galen to the Leiden anatomy lessons, Gray’s until the current highly detailed 3d models. Going to be a tight bunch ;-) Mieke Mieke Roth Scientific and technical illustrations Mieke Roth, Msc. It was well received by a fairly educated community. I included slides of Leonardo and Durer among others and covered a span from Lascaux Caves to the present. I am looking true the National Library of Medicine free database and find amazing reference material. If any of you have other suggestions, I love to hear them! Mieke Van: Mieke Roth [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Verzonden: vrijdag 28 december 2012 12:59 Aan: SciArt-L Discussion List-for Natural Science Illustration- Onderwerp: history of scientific illustration Dear all, I want to make a short video about scientific illustration for a Dutch website. Because it is for the general public I naturally keep it about the history of scientific illustration. My plan is to take one of Leonardo’s da Vinci’s illustrations and transform that true the ages until now. So go from his really natural and vivid illustration towards a more standardized (in style and position) illustration all the way up to the highly detailed 3d models we have nowadays. The video will be 101 seconds long (the website is called: wetenschap101 = science101 as the first textbook at a course at college and university) so I only have room for about 250 words. Which in between determining styles should I look for to render in between? I want to take one of his anatomy models and I think of putting Gray’s anatomy in, but I am still wondering about other illustrators. I want to morph all of them in the time line, so I need subjects that are drawn similar, for example the skeleton drawings of Da Vinci in this image: http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/8/2011/12/1f514f005f182e5404e5c2ada8b74b03.jpg Can you help me? Thanks in advance! Mieke P.S. furthermore I am working on a project that I am going to crowd fund from the end of January. I will write about that next week.
