I did the illustrations in ArtRage Studio Pro using a Wacom Intuos 3 tablet.  I wrote a series of posts about making the images, being a freelancing stay at home dad, and more. They can be found here:

Creating my first scientific illustrations for publication was a little intimidating, considering they were going alongside some incredible insect photography. Then I stopped worrying and embraced the painty-nature of my work.
