The "F" keys on a Mac can depend on how the individual user has programmed them. For example, F11 on my Mac only affects the sound level, no matter whether or not I use it in combo with "control", "option" (alt), or "command." I'm running two monitors at the same time, so I might not be the best test.

The green button in the upper left of Mac windows is a TOGGLE button, and it's official name is the "green zoom button (+)". Clicking on it once brings that window ONLY to full size; clicking again brings the window back to where it was previously. If you click and drag the lower right corner of the window to whatever size you want, that's the size to which it will return when you click the green button from the "full screen" mode.

More names for the three red, yellow, green buttons in the upper left (well, the red and yellow anyway): red = "red close button (x)"  yellow = "yellow minimize button (-)"

Many applications have an additional method in the UPPER RIGHT of the window, depending on which operating system is running (and probably depending on the application). In the top right are two darker grey arrows, pointing opposite directions on a diagonal. Clicking on those arrows once brings the window to full size. I think there are various settings for this -- on my current set up I need to roll my mouse up to the top -- the menu bar then drops down, and what were once darker gray arrows are now light gray against a blue background, still in the upper right corner. Clicking restores everything back to the current size. I think you're supposed to be able to either swipe right and left or use the arrow keys to move through full-screen windows -- I don't have my computer set up that way.

Alternate: most applications have a "View > Full Screen". To leave full screen mode, you can also press the "Escape" button on the keyboard, or go to "View > Exit Full Screen."
