If you are getting paid relatively little, then parse those rights like crazy to get them the minimum they can live with. I suspect it will be difficult to do that if you are dealing with a big publisher, but smaller publishers might go for it. Limits on quantity, language, & retail channel are all legitimate ways to minimize the rights.
