Greetings from your Horse & Falcon Jousting Coordinator!

Based upon the responses I've received and the conversations (both public
and private) around Foam Jousting, I am proposing that this be a
re-authorization/class/practice session. For those that have been to Gulf
Wars, think the Jousting 101 and 201 classes.

Here is what I'm proposing.

*Armor Inspections*: I do feel like we've not been as vigilant about these
as we should be (or at least I've not seen it), so for those jousting
marshals in training and for re-authorizations, I feel this is something we
should do as part of the "class". Hopefully not more than 30 minutes. Come
armored up and ready for inspection.

*Proper Levee's*: Learn what a levee is, practicing on the quintain or
other target. Carousel of horses/riders, if people need to switch horses,
we'll trade off and do a 2nd/3rd round. First round will be without
helmets, so that feedback can be given and heard. 2nd round will be with
helmets (if we have time). ~30 minutes, pending the number of participants.

*Passes without lance for re-authorizing riders*: Carousel of passes
without lances (for the new/re-authorizing rider). Authorized rider will
make the pass with a lance & tip. The purpose is to practice getting hit,
maintaining gait, and riding to the end of the lane. ~30 minutes, pending
the number of participants.

*Passes with lances for re-authorizing riders*: Carousel of passes with
lances & tips (for the new/re-authorizing rider). Authorized rider will NOT
have a lance, but will present good targets. The purpose is to practice
hitting on target, follow through, maintaining gait, and riding to the end
of the lane. ~30 minutes, pending the number of participants.

*Full Passes*: Both riders will have lances with tips and will run 2 passes
each. Would like to carousel this as well, so as to get as many runs as
steeds and riders will allow. Focus on hitting target, following through,
maintaining gait, and riding to the end of the lane. ~1 hour, pending
participants and energy level.

Please note: I will be requiring a canter or gaited-equivalent. The mounts
in Calontir that I've seen trot the tilt in the past do *not* have smooth
trots that would facilitate a safe pass, in my opinion. I have seen some of
our gaited mounts have a proper smooth Gaited movement (such as Kate, when
she gets into it), and that is allowed. Trotting, though, will not be. If
by the end of the 2nd portion (passes without lances) a steed is not moving
at a canter/gait, I will ask that the rider move to a different mount or
try again at a future event.

Don't forget to review the armor requirements (Starting Page 9-
http://sca.org/officers//equestrian/pdf/equestrian_handbook.pdf) and read
through the Jousting hand-out (http://goo.gl/997RkI). Any questions, please
let me know!
