Please join us for Zweig at Fredonia 2016 to be held on the campus of The State University of New York at Fredonia, 3-5 October 2016. Events will highlight the connection between Austrian Jewish author Stefan Zweig (1881-1942) and the music of his time, notably his relationship with German composer Richard Strauss (1864-1949) – Zweig provided the libretto for Strauss’s opera Die schweigsame Frau. Offerings include a panel discussion led by noted musicologist Dr. Matthew Werley (Oxford) on the burgeoning relationship between Zweig and Strauss in the politically volatile environment of mid-1930s Europe; a performance of selections from Strauss’s opera by Fredonia School of Music faculty and students; an exhibit featuring select correspondence between Zweig and Strauss from Fredonia’s prized Stefan Zweig Collection; and the 4th Biennial Stefan Zweig Lecture given by award-winning Zweig biographer George Prochnik.

All events are free and open to the public.
