Dear colleagues, The SMT Improvisation Interest Group is soliciting proposals for a paper session at the Interest Group meeting at AMS/SMT in Vancouver. The meeting will take place Friday November 4 at 5:15pm. The theme of the session is “Analysis of Improvisation.” We are particularly interested in questions like: - What does analyzing improvised music entail? - How do we think and write about improvisational acts? - Where and how do we draw the line between composition and improvisation? - What sorts of tools are appropriate for the analysis of composed v. improvised music? Papers that focus on an actual analysis of an improvised performance would of course be welcome too. This proposal is for 20-minute papers, with a few minutes for discussion following. Please send 250-word abstracts to Chris Stover (stoverc -at- newschool.edu) and Max Guido (massimiliano.guido -at- unipv.it) by September 11, 2016 at 11:59pm. Notifications will be sent by September 18. All best wishes, Chris Stover and Max Guido _______________________________________________ AMS-Announce mailing list and bulletin board: READ THE GUIDELINES prior to submitting a post: http://www.ams-net.org/announce.php TO SEE THE ARCHIVED POSTS: http://listserv.unl.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=AMS-ANNOUNCE TO UNSUBSCRIBE, or switch to/from Digest mode: log in to http://listserv.unl.edu and edit your subscription.
