*Claude Debussy in 2018: a Centenary Celebration at the Royal Northern College of Music and the University of Glasgow* *Including:* *- Debussy Perspectives, 1918-2018* 19-21 March 2018, RNCM, Manchester *- Debussy’s Late Work and the Musical Worlds of Wartime Paris* 22-23 March 2018, University of Glasgow *Call for Papers* We invite proposals that exemplify all possible approaches to Debussy and his creative context. Abstracts (300 words) for 20-minute papers or presentations and a short biography (100 words) should be sent to research -at- rncm.ac.uk by 1 September 2017. *PLEASE INCLUDE any requirement for particular DATES, i.e. 19-21 or 22-23 March. Prof. Barbara Kelly (RNCM) and Dr, David J. Code (University of Glasgow) are pleased to invite submission to two related events designed to mark the centenary of the death of Claude Debussy on March 25, 1918. ‘Debussy Perspectives’ will bring together world experts and emerging scholars to reflect critically on the current state of Debussy research of all kinds. ‘Debussy’s Late work and the Musical Worlds of Wartime Paris’ will focus mainly on the music Debussy (and others) created during the First World War, along with its reception from the postwar years until now. Performance workshops and concerts will be central to both events. We are delighted to announce as our keynote speakers: Dr. Denis Herlin (Manchester) and Dr. Marianne Wheeldon (Glasgow). *Call for Creative Works ‘in memoriam Claude Debussy’* Our final chamber concert will include original works by RNCM and GU composers. But we also invite *any interested composers* to submit short works (ca. 5 mins) using the instrumentation Debussy envisioned for his fourth and fifth sonatas (oboe, horn and harpsichord; clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, and piano). Some may be selected for inclusion in our workshops and/or concert.
