I did not wish to imply that you intended such, and I also offer my apologies. My caution, and it is one that I learned only imperfectly and late in life, is that when we achieve a certain level in whatever endeavor we choose, we become examples. And our intent, our enthusiasm, must be tempered by understanding that it may appear...overwhelming and critical...to those seeking exemplars. Just as your enthusiastic, and laudable, post was perceived at least partly that way by Rosalye, such a statement when judging a person's entry might have the opposite effect to what you intended.

And, for those who receive such words, a reminder that we are all just mortal. Our exemplars are just persons, and may express their ideas imperfectly, and their words need to be given the most charitable interpretation, not the most negative one.

Again, both things are advice I must remind my self of more than I would wish. :-)

It appears there is a misunderstanding of my words and my intent. For any lack of clarity, I offer my apologies. I wish to encourage others to attempt more than they are certain of. I wish to promote growth in these fields, and encourage others to believe they are more capable than what they believe. Lady Rosalye's example of the sewing entry is exactly what I would hope others would take to heart from my words.

I am not at all inferring "leave it at home." I am saying that if you chose not to do something because someone tells you it is hard, then you are failing yourself. I am encouraging others to not "play it safe," but to look for that next step and make it yours.

I am declaring "I believe in you, and you should too."
