Dear colleagues,

The SMT Analysis of World Music Interest Group invites submissions for a lightning round of brief presentations on the topic of bringing non-Western or vernacular musics into the core music theory and music history classroom. Topics can include repertoires, concepts, strategies, problems, and more. We particularly encourage submissions with an overtly practical theme; e.g. something someone can take up and potentially use in their classroom. The lightning round will be followed by a general discussion.

The session is scheduled for Friday 2 Nov., 12:30-2 p.m.

Please submit a brief (max. 100 words) abstract to Chris Stover—cdstover -at- asu.edu—by September 30.

Presentations will be five minutes in length. To facilitate smooth transitions during the session, we will be asking presenters to submit powerpoint slides (if used) a week in advance of the conference, which we will assemble into a single presentation.

Finally, we encourage all interested folks to subscribe to the Analysis of World Music IG, which you can do here.

See everyone in San Antonio!

chris
