This is just a quick reminder that the deadline for conference registration
for the 2018 Western Literature Association Conference is a just a few weeks
away, September 24, 2018. A late fee ($25) will be charged for conference
registration and for meal registration(an additional $5 for each meal) after
that date.

Below, we've copied over from an earlier email information about the
conference schedule, hotel reservations, travel, and general information about
registration items.

A draft of the conference schedule (click on Conference Agenda) is also
available on ConfTool.

We wanted to draw your attention to a few optional items available on the
registration form. With most meals, when you select to attend a meal event, an
additional box will appear that will allow you (when you click on it) to
choose an entree for that meal.

For the Women's Breakfast and MeToo Dialogue event, self-identified women and
gender nonconforming people are invited to meet one another over continental
breakfast to establish friendships, coalitions, and mentoring relationships;
breakfast will be followed by a moderated discussion about how the MeToo
movement has shaped classrooms, research, and lives. The discussion is open to all conference participants from 8:30-9:00 am.

Registration for the Past Presidents' luncheon is open to all conference
participants. After a sit-down lunch, WLA Past President Florence Amamoto will
have a discussion with Black Arts Movement poet, scholar, and activist Eugene
B. Redmond. Dr. Redmond’s work has often been devoted to East St. Louis,
where he grew up. There, he worked alongside other storied black artists, like
dancer Katherine Dunham and jazz musician Miles Davis. His poetry often
engages with the histories and contemporary politics and experiences of this
place, and he continues to foster engagement with the arts, particularly among
young people, through the city’s Eugene B. Redmond Writers’ Club, which
was founded over 30 years ago. The conversation with Dr. Redmond will be open

There is also a planned Saturday excursion to the Cahokia Mounds State
Historic Site. Transportation and a box lunch will be provided for those who
choose this event.
