The aim of the Music Theatre working group is to discuss a broad range of methodological and theoretical perspectives on all kinds of music theatre, from opera and musical to new forms of music theatre. The group brings together scholars
from various disciplines, including musicology and theatre studies. To learn more about the group, see

In keeping with the conference theme of “Theatre, Performance and Urbanism,” we invite existing and new WG members to submit papers on any aspect of music theatre or music and sound in performance that relate to the general topics
of the conference (https://www.iftr.org/conference). Specifically, we welcome papers that explore (but are not limited to) the following topics:
* Urban auralities, “noise,” theatre and performance
* Performing rural, suburban and city soundscapes
* Acoustemologies of the city and the performativity of sound
* “Habitus” and sound/ music
* The touring musical/ music theatre
* Intercultural soundscapes in performance
* Urbanism and urbanization as a theme in music theatre
* Cultural “capital” and the musical
We also welcome papers on any other aspect of music theatre. The Music Theatre WG is committed to an open and inclusive discussion of a broad range of topics in various stages of development, including work in progress. We particularly
encourage graduate students and early career scholars to share their work.
