The AMS History of Music Theory Study Group is organizing a special evening session (AMS Boston, 31-Oct-3 Nov) on the theme of “Revolutions in the History of Music Theory.”  We invite proposals for short papers (ca. 15 mins) that engage with the idea of revolution from a wide range of perspectives, including but not limited to: the entanglements of music theory with political, theological, or technological revolutions across the historical spectrum; the role of music theory in the articulation or defense of stylistic, notational, or historiographical revolutions; and the use of "revolutionary" structures such as circular diagrams, rotational symmetries, and cyclical patterns in the formulation of music-theoretical concepts.  Proposals of no more than 200 words should be sent to historyofmusictheory -at- gmail.com by May 8.
