The Department of Music at Carleton College invites applications for a one-year replacement position (.8 FTE, non-tenure track, with benefits) in Composition at the rank of visiting assistant professor or instructor, appropriate to education and experience, beginning 1 Sept 2021. We seek a composer who is active in the field and who has an understanding of and commitment to the teaching of music composition in an undergraduate liberal arts setting. A Master of Music is required; doctorate (DMA or PhD) is preferred. This sabbatical replacement will teach the equivalent of five courses over three 9.5 week academic terms. Teaching will include private composition lessons and topical composition seminars in music technology, as well as seminars in the applicant’s areas of interest and expertise. Supervision of senior comprehensive thesis projects in composition may also be possible. Experience with both acoustic and electronic media is strongly preferred.
