The Department of Music at Carleton College invites applications for a
sabbatical replacement position (0.66 FTE, non-tenure track, eligible for
health benefits) in Ethnomusicology at the rank of visiting assistant
professor or instructor level, appropriate to education and experience,
beginning September 1, 2021. We seek an ethnomusicologist who is an active
scholar and who has an understanding of, and commitment to, teaching in an
undergraduate liberal arts setting. A Ph.D in Ethnomusicology or closely
related field is required. ABD applicants will be considered, but the
doctorate should be completed before the position start date. The candidate
will teach four courses over the academic year, concentrating on a mix of
global area studies and American vernacular music. Specialists in African,
Latin American or Indigenous music(s), and/or hip-hop are strongly
preferred. We also seek a scholar who may incorporate aspects of practical
music making and/or experiential learning into their courses.

We are particularly interested in candidates committed to teaching a
diverse student body. Carleton is committed to developing its faculty to
better reflect the diversity of our student body and American society.
Women and members of underrepresented minority groups are strongly
encouraged to apply. Carleton College does not discriminate on the basis of
race, color, creed, ethnicity, religion, sex, national origin, marital
status, veteran status, actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender
identity and expression, status with regard to public assistance,
disability, or age in providing employment or access to its educational
facilities and activities.

To apply, please visit the Carleton College Web site at careers.carleton.edu
and submit an online application by March 22, 2021, including a letter of
application, a C.V., and a written statement about teaching in an
undergraduate liberal arts environment and how you would contribute to a
college community that embraces a diversity of people and perspectives as
one of its core values. Contact information for three letters of reference
should also be uploaded at the same site.

Application deadline is March 22, 2021.
