The scam is that they send you a bogus check for quite a bit over the agreed-upon price, and then you “refund” them with your real money.

I would direct them to your current art prints/originals. If they insist on
a commission, send a contract which should include 50% up front. That
scares most of them away. You can also just ignore it. I get one every
second week. Most are through Instagram from accounts with NO posts.
As others have said, trust your gut.

Yes- if she didn’t specify which art, sounds like a scam to me, too.
Someone did something similar to me a few years back and wanted to send a
check and I would mail a few expensive pieces of art. The address was only
a couple hours away, so I offered to drive the art to them and do the
exchange in person, and then they stopped writing to me.

If you state that you only accept payment through PayPal or Zelle you will never hear from them again. The scam depends on you accepting their bogus check that they pay over the amount on and when you reimburse them before the check doesn’t clear because it’s bogus, then you are out the money.
