I have been ‘burned’ by Wacom so many times. I’ve used their tablets since 1992 and I hate their EOL (“end of life”) driver policy, which means you have to dispose of a perfectly functional piece of hardware because they refuse to upgrade their driver for a new version of the operating system. I’ve switched to Huion for my tablet needs and have not looked back.

I guess it depends on your workflow… I’ve tried using Astropad to control my screen and i didn’t really like it compared to my old Cintiq, mostly because I missed the physical buttons. Here’s a tutorial on how to use it: https://www.creativebloq.com/how-to/how-to-use-an-ipad-as-a-drawing-tablet-with-a-pc

I ended up using adobe photoshop on my iPad for drawing, save to adobe cloud and then open on my computer for advanced blending and to pick up where the limited iPad app failed. It’s far from perfect and would sometimes create multiple versions or a file, and was sometimes slow to sync and hand off  between the platforms. That said, the form factor of the iPad is pretty nice. There are covers that make it feel more like paper, but most of the pros I know use apps other than photoshop for drawing. Specifically procreate: https://procreate.com/ and more the more popular clip studio: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/

If you’re hesitant to make the switch because you’re in the middle of a project, you could pick up a used tablet, to save on the learning curve a bit. I see the old cintiq models which were selling for $2000+ 12-13 years ago going for $200-300 on eBay now, which might be worth a shot. However the low end “Wacom One” is only $400 and I saw there is a 30 day trial available if you wanted to try before you decide, which was what I meant with the iPad/pencil suggestion.  If the iPad fits into your workflow, it sure is convenient!

Thanks so much, and I have one, but am totally clueless as to how to hook this to my iMac and photoshop?  As you can see, I pass up no opportunity to display my ignorance!

Try an iPad with Apple Pencil if you haven’t yet!

Hi all,
My poor old Wacom Intuos3 just got snuffed today during my upgrade to Ventura 13.1 (after a mere 17 years or so).

Naturally I'm right on top of a deadline and have no idea what I should be replacing it with without spending a huge amount of money.  All suggestions welcome!

Thanks in advance,
Marlene
