Bob has rescheduled to tell us about his adventures last summer out West and to share ideas for making art adventures pay for themselves, such as artist residencies in parks and guiding wilderness trips. March 17: Computer Illustration and the World Wide Web. George Venable, veteran entomological illustrator and Mac guru of the Smithsonian, will demonstrate creating illustrations digitally and using illustrations on the Web. Even those of us who don't use computers may have our art published on the Web, and George will tell us how to plan for digital use. April 21: Panel discussion: Degree Programs in Scientific and Medical Illustration. Panelists from several formal educational programs in our region and around the country will talk about their experiences, curricula, and how school prepared them for their careers. Learn about the opportunities open to aspiring illustrators and get a perspective on formal education in our field. May 19: Notes from the Caribbean: Taina Litwak will report on the January Guild workshop in the Cayman Islands taught by Cindy Shaw and Frank Ippolito. The workshop includes sketching underwater while snorkeling, underwater photography, researching reef biology for a magazine spread, and mixed media techniques for achieving underater effects using gouache, airbrush, and acryl gouache. Meetings are free and open to all and are held at 5:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month. They are held in the Waldo Schmitt Room of the Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, at Tenth Street and Constitution Avenue.
