While this entry level 3D program is really not up to snuff for doing full fledged 3D work, it offers this tool that none of the others do. As you are taking a class in Illustrator, this may be exactly what you need. The educational discount on this package is $99, so you'll have to decide whether the output you are seeing in your class will justify this overhead at this time. 3D rendering is a hot topic in illustration and getting hotter each month. I use it frequently as a tool in my freelance work these days and teach it as part of a wider program. Most of my "animation" students take this class to learn about modeling for use in illustration. I'm excited to note that we will be seeing a much needed focus on this area during this coming summer meeting. I haven't heard back from Cindy with the specific schedule yet.
