to those whom are learning and who continue to learn:
the client who requests illustration is looking for a visual message that
will evoke a human response. the hand painted art translates the living
organism in a sensitive, touching manner that photography or pure digital
manipulation can not. the artist observes the natural science specimen from many
views. they take these observations and scientific concepts into a personal
creative process. each artist presents their individual conception in a balanced
composition with a provocative unique style to fulfill the client's story or need.
unfortunately, there are fewer art directors who order new nature science
illustrations than in previous years. this is because their budgets for art
have been reduced by marketplace globalization and the quickness of technology.
as the economy recovers and the market tires of flat homogenous digital
output (no offense to the creators) the need of "shmeered paint or precise pen"
will never go out of style. this originality of hand is what makes the buyer or
viewer go "AH."
