If you can afford a Raid-protected disc get one. I have a 6TB LaCie Thunderbolt-connected drive. It’s smokin’ fast.

Only newer Macs have Thunderbolt and very few Windows machines (as yet only in the USA) have that option. I think you can buy an adapter pack online. You can only format it for one system or the other to save to.

The 6TB seems similar in price to the 4TB but you might have access to better deals. The IT guys at work tell me the hard dives in it are server grade and it’s a great package.

I generated 63 GB of 200-megapixel Hasselblad photos yesterday and was able to back up the whole lot in a hurry, in 7 minutes!

Cheers,

Geoff

Subject: [SCIART] external hard drives

HI All:

Is there any news out there that I should be aware of prior to the purchase of a new external hard drive.

Probably a 2TB.

Any new technology?

Thank you in advance.

Linda
