I have also tried to get the controversial role of this subspecies, which apparently only differs from C. grantii by the metallic color of some specimens. Remember the character "color" and "size" and have been used previously to nominate other subspecies of doubtful validity, which rightly been synonymized in the last revision of the genus Chiasognathus. It is known that the character 'color' varies by several factors (humidity, altitude, food etc). For me, I'd have more sense as a new subspecies nominate a small population of C. grantii discovered on 2012 in the Madre de Dios Island, situated in the middle of the Pacific Ocean near Magallanes.
