Yeah.I've heard "ta" as a brief "thanks" in Britain, but rarely in Canada,
although of course there are lots of Brits here and so you do sometimes hear
it. "Ta ta" is often used for good bye, and when I think about it, I think
the most common phrase I've heard is "ta ta for now" or "ta for now" or even
"ta now". I also have heard, in Canada "ta-thanks", at least once or twice
that I recall. In the US I have heard "thankee" for "thank you" (I
think<G>).

No, I've only heard "ta" used in Britain and Scotland as "thanks". In the US
"ta, ta!" would be used by someone trying to say goodbye in a British way.
As Linda says, in the US "ta tas" are a euphemism for female breasts ;-)

Cheers,
Pam

I've seen a bumper sticker Save the TaTas, with a pink ribbon, but don't

TaTa is also the name of India's biggest motor vehicle producer. I just
googled that, but do remember seeing "TaTa" on the front of buses.

That's funny, Ta ta is used both in Australia and the UK by older people for
Goodbye. Both former English colonies.
