GNSI Member to Present at Chilean Biodiversity Conference
Mauricio Alvarez Abel will be participating in the X Latin American Congress of Private and Peoples Innovation for Biodiversity Conservation in Valdivia, Los Rios Region, Chile, from August 19 to 23, 2013.

Oregon Digital Illustration Workshop
August 2 and 3rd , 2013 the GNSI Oregon Group hosted a computer workshop geared toward Scientific Illustrators as part of our ongoing Ocean Art Challenge.

Science Illustration Sourcebooks
For those who promote their work to potential clients, one of the traditional methods is through sourcebooks. For the science Illustration community, this often means September is a big month when the fruits of your labor are put on display in the latest editions of the Science-Art and Medical Illustration Source directories.

GNSI-DC: Digital Clay: A Brief Look at Sculpting in ZBrush
Welcome back from summer! We have a fascinating talk to start up a great fall season of monthly Guild presentations. James Morrison will walk us through his techniques for "digital sculpting." Be sure to attend!

GNSI 2014 Annual Conference - Boulder, Colorado

The Artist-in-Residence Program at Acadia National Park, SCHOODIC District in Winter Harbor, Maine, offers professional writers, composers, and all visual and performing artists the opportunity to pursue their particular art form while surrounded by the inspiring landscape of the park.

Open Call Entomological Art
ECLOSION, a juried group exhibition of entomological art November 9 - December 1, 2013.

Exhibit Call: In the Footsteps of David Douglas
This exhibition will highlight the life and accomplishments of Scottish botanist and explorer David Douglas and his contemporary legacy of plant collecting, documentation and illustration in the Pacific Northwest.

WORKSHOPS

Botanical Painting 2013
EVENT DATES: September 7 & 8, October 5 & 6, November 16 & 17, and November 2, 3 & 4
LOCATION: Bend, OR and Lake Oswego, Portland
FEE: $65 per day, or $120 for two days, and $175 for three days.
Learn the fundamentals of botanical painting in water-color, including an introduction to necessary supplies, drawing and painting techniques, composition, choosing and mixing colors, creating colors, and more.

Gardens and Villas of the Italian Lakes
EVENT DATE: June 21, 2014 (All day) - June 30, 2014 (All day)
FEE: $4999 before December 22, 2013. After that date the cost is $5249.
A June tour to Italy offered by Gretchen Halpert in conjunction with Collette Tours and the Royal Horticultural Society.

Back To Basics: Drawing with Confidence

You draw for your artwork, but it's slow, you avoid difficult views, and still, you're not sure its quite right... Have no fear! Whether your subject is a landscape, your favorite pet, or autumn perennials, this back-to-basics drawing course will help you achieve your goal. In this fun four-day workshop, return to the drawing basics of Line, Shading, Perspective, and Composition to bolster your drawing skills and boost your confidence.
