I think you're right Lore.  Can you run a printout of data showing use and prints?  I realize there are roller issues, but it sounds like you may have to do an uninstall software on the computer, un hook and have the computer locate and reinstall with updated drivers fro the Epson site.  Also see if there aren't some diagnostics that can be downloaded from the Epson site.    Just some thoughts, but it does sound like you are losing valuable time versus the effort of getting a printout.   So sorry.   Deb

Hi,

I suspect you have a higher level printer. I've used some of those and they do have menus on the printer, but this is the bottom end archival printer - just on/off type buttons. I'm going to get some rubbing alcohol tomorrow and try Karen's suggestion. I think that might solve one piece of the puzzle - that the roller's aren't catching the paper. However, my printer is also glitching in other ways that suggest software or electronic hardware, e.g. telling me that I have roll paper installed when I don't, or telling me there is a paper jam over and over when there clearly is not. My usual little rituals don't solve the problem all the time now. Yesterday, it even stalled in the middle of printing something. That's why I'm wondering if this is terminal and starting to think about what next, another 1900 or something else ....

Thanks, Lore

Lore, I havent used the R1900 but I know on my Epson menu button I can check the various setting for paper, ink settings, networking, etc. Typically Epson has sensors that automatically adjust for the paper. I tried a heavyweight canvas thru the manual feeder but I think because I dont have enough space to feed it thru completely flat it grabs or does not feed properly. Also tge link above seems to specify addional steps required. Also when printing from the auto feeder if the paper guide is too tight against the paper it eill not feed properly and catches. Not being able to see what is going on its hard to troubleshoot. Best. Deb

Deb, I vary the print settings to adjust for paper. Is there something mechanical on the printer that I can adjust?

Karen, thanks for the cleaning tip - I'll try that.

Sorry to hear others have had similar hassles!

I've had my Epson R1900 for awhile and I like the output even though it's always been a bit finicky with it's paper uptake. However, it's been a positive scrooge of late; miserly, resentful, and stubborn. Is this the sign of a terminal illness or the need for some TLC? Is this the general persona of the R1900 or have others had better luck with the paper feed? I'm beginning to feel a bit resentful myself!
