I don't work on a Mac, so I'm not too familiar with fixes for it. However I know that one time I boosted the Photoshop RAM, and it basically made things worse because there was not enough RAM left allocated for the basic computer sys to function properly. So I would be carefully with that. Also, try to check if there is anything running in the background that isn't necessarily visible to you. Something that might run when you boot your computer (i.e something that might have sneaked in on an install you might have done recently). I don't know if you can check that sort of things? I hope a few Mac savvy people can help you with this.
Good luck,

Taina, I have been experiencing more PS crashes lately.  I find that if I have other certain programs open, like PowerPoint and others, that conflicts seem to arise.  Running it solo may help.

Hi all. HELP! My Photoshop CS4 (on MacBook Pro, OS 10.6.8) has crashed on me 9 times today. Happens when I am doing things in layers palette - duplicating one or changing order, a few times on jumping back thru history palette. Ran permissions check and repair. Ran disk verification. Checked and installed all software updates with Apple. Increased RAM to Photoshop to 2242. Have only 71 GB of free space on the drive, but that should be enough as today's project files are small - 8.5 MG greyscale. Any insights appreciated. I know there is no sense calling Adobe, as last month when I needed help on my home system with CS4 they said they no longer supported this product. The dogs. Taina
