Ah.... that is good to know. Perhaps my clients have not tried all the alternatives because they are discouraged to do so. They had to get an IT specialist to download a free google font, that is supposed to make it easy on graphic contractors, but they cannot customize their computers, even the graphic designers. So it must be really frustrating to them. They have so many hoops to jump through, perhaps they just got tired of trying. I can sympathize.

Thank you very much!

As far as I know, they do have to sign up and "join" dropbox to access your files.  They will get an e-mail invite when you enter their e-mail in "share this folder".   Its free.  They have to create free account and password on dropbox site.

Thank you Taina, Clara, Britt and Wendy:

I send folders and files to clients who are not dropbox owners all the time.
I was trying to come up with a way for a government employee who cannot use other methods to send large files. They are blocked from sending to ftp sites, or even using Hightail. So I was hoping Dropbox would be something they could just link to and upload, but it looks like they have to sign up and share specifically.

THANKS!  Sometimes this is difficult for some clients, we will just have find another way. Burning a CD seems to be the traditional fallback. ha.

Super thanks to all.

Speaking as a fed who has this problem all the time with the Mil net, we
can sometimes get access to google docs( this has been pretty reliable
lately) or you go home and get it.  If we are very lucky the mil ftp site
is working. Their agency should have its own approved FTP site.  There are
several.

Hi Liz:
Yes, they have provided their own agency ftp site, but they've made it so secure, that it's impossible to use, alas. The last time we tried their password was 30 characters long, with a mix of alpha/numeric/symbols, that could not be copy/pasted, and when entering one could not see what was being typed ( the little dots showed) so after seven careful tries and no way to determine where I messed up. I gave up. I was told that everybody had trouble with using the site, and I deeply suspect they gave me the wrong password.  haha.

We did find today, that she could easily upload to my personal FTP site, and that solved it today. Apparently they can access through the internet but they cannot load an FTP client(?) onto their own computer, like Fetch or whatever.

I've not used google docs, but worth checking out.

Today is a good day!

Glad it worked out. Security sounds about right. You're left with the
feeling that someone has spent a whole lot of taxpayer money on a system
that basically ensures they will be employed for a long time. And you're
also right; we cannot load an ftp client to a secure network but can send
things out.

Subject: CS4 photoshop plug in for Illustrator ?

Any advise appreciated.   Last week had to do clean install new OS onto 4 yr old iMac.  Yosemite - a Dreaded day.  It's pretty much all back working, (scanner, printers, wacom, Osirix, Firefox, etc.) but in Full from the CD reinstall - CS4 has lost the ability to place PSD files in AI.  It will take jpgs.  On start up, the program says "some plug ins have been updated" - restart to utilize, but restarting does nada.

Is there a third party plug in that facilitates that sort of file placing and keeping them linked?  I totally need that capability.  Adobe has told me before, on 2 occasions unrelated that they no longer support CS4 at all, so there is no sense asking them.  Help!
