Chronaflex no longer available, I use either dura-lar or frosted acetate for carbondust. Trudy and I have experimented with the clay-coated boards and some of them work OK with a bit of surface prep.

Cronaflex was a DuPont coated mylar  (DuPont’s brand of polyester) developed in the 1950’s  and used mainly in engineering drafting.  It went out of production in the 1980’s(?) when digital drafting came in.  Scientific illustrators used Cronaflex as it was stable and accepted ink and other media well and had enough translucence for tracing.  I used the UC-4 which was a 4 mil double coated film.  I have a roll that Elaine Hodges left me.

There should be something about it in the Archives.

Color-Aid® may be currently available but it has changed completely-- the last batch I got was no longer suede-like but ultra smooth and glossy, totally unsuitable for carbon dust.  They used to be a very friendly company but did not respond to my inquiries.

Hello,

Does anyone have current information on papers mentioned/discussed in the currently available GNSI Technique Sheets packet? Specifically

-papers such as Color-Aid® (which is currently available); older papers would include Cronaflex, Video and Media papers, used for Carbon Dust

-also Colormatch or Wedgewood papers

-permeable silicon paper (cited in Carolyn Gast's article about paper repair)

Any info would be appreciated,
