Thank you, Geoff. Right, that looks suspiciously too cheap. Must be a catch there somewhere.

On a whim, as I was contemplating what to do, I called an artist friend who suggested I look again at the Adobe drop-down menu items where I search for my previous version. Near the bottom when I pulled on a tab I hadn't seen before, and under where it logically should have been, I found "CS3" (not extended) listed. I added the serial number, and next thing I know CS5 is available without any more "30-day trial" notice staring at me. So it seems to have taken and, pending further windows popping up on my monitor, I think I'm in business. Whew! So I'm logging out of eBay now and I think I'm good to go.
