The Branham Laboratory at the University of Florida (Department of Entomology and Nematology) is seeking a highly motivated student interested in conducting PhD research on firefly systematics/phylogenetics and the ultrastructure of firefly light organs.

The selected applicant will be offered a 4-year assistantship with stipend, tuition waiver and health insurance, and will need to meet the admission requirements for the doctoral program at the University of Florida (http://entnemdept.ifas.ufl.edu/academics-directory/graduate-studies/) . International fieldwork, museum research and participation in outreach activities are required. The research goals of this assistantship are in line with the goals specified in our recently awarded NSF grant, but some flexibility exists in the focus of the resulting dissertation.

Anticipated start date of assistantship, August 2017.

There is a wealth of interest and expertise in behavior, ecology, evolution, and systematics associated with the UF/IFAS Entomology and Nematology Department. A particular area of strength exists in insect communication. http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/

Interested candidates should send an email describing their past experience and their motivation for pursuing a Ph.D., along with a CV (including GPA and GRE scores), college transcripts (unofficial is ok), and the names and contact information for 2-3 references. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Marc Branham at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> ASAP.

Once final candidates are selected, they will need to submit a formal application with University of Florida graduate school. The University of Florida is an Equal Opportunity Institution
