Imagining Wagnerian Bodies: from Nietzsche to Kittler

30 August 2017, Christ's College, University of Cambridge

-day symposium seeks to reassess
 transformative paradigms
 offered in
Nietzsche’s and Kittler’s critiques of Wagner for the twenty-first century. It aims to situate them
 both
in the digital culture of today,

these shifts in understanding impact our understanding of Wagner’s music in 2017
, and the extent to which
 a hygienic, digitised context
might
erase or enhance Wagner’s historicized cultural identity.

Speakers include:

     John Deathridge (Kings College London)
Sven Friedrich (Wagner Museum, Bayreuth)
     Kathy Fry (Kings College London)
Michael Gallope (Univ. of Minnesota)
     Gundula Kreuzer (Yale Univ.)
