Just weighing in as a generally-broke illustrator: I was forced to go to the subscription plan two years back, since my last full version was CS3, and with the new OSs things started to get way too wonky (non-functional would be more like it). Like many of us I unfortunately could not justify the price for the entire suite because I just don’t do enough in Illustrator or InDesign (or anything else), so I have been on the Photoshop-only (photographers’ plan) which does include Lightroom classic and Lightroom CC, and I pay $119 a year... and as Molly says there is access to a lot of “stuff” (and I still refer to tutorials; love them). Just the other day I downloaded a zillion new brushes (though so far haven’t found any as good as the ones I made myself!).

I wish I felt I had time to even check out Lightroom, but thus far I haven’t ...(I am not a photographer!). And I do sometimes miss InDesign and Illustrator, but most of the stuff I do can be done effectively now in PS. 

I am not sure if the price of $119/year is because of my previous licenses, but it seems to me everyone should be able to get that option. At basically then, only $10/month, to me it has been pretty darn reasonable and I’m happy with it.

I pay the Adobe $50 monthly fee, and write it off on my Schedule C as a cost of doing business.  Seems OK to me, but when I retire, I might feel differently.  I have kept legacy versions for just this reason.  I have multiple versions of Photoshop on my computer, because some versions are stronger for some functions than others.  I jump back and forth between them.  I would be interested to know the deal with the PS single license.  It seems to be the way of the world--so much software is going to the subscription model.

Thanks, Geoff.  I've heard a lot about Capture One, but I'm just looking for a raw converter for Fuji RAFs.  I like the processing in CS6, just need something other than LR to convert the raw images.  I also wonder if Capture One will go to a subscription scheme one day soon, as they are already offering a $149/year service.  Presumably that gives updates without the bother of paying extra for them, which might be a cost saving, but I still wonder.  I guess I should try it for a month, but I've yet to run through the other software converters, many of which have some shortcomings (in my humble opinion) the chief among those not converting to DNGs, thereby requiring one maintain sidecar files.  But I'll check it out soon.  Thanks again.
