Thanks for this discussion. I also do lots of freebies or token fees when merited, and as Linda mentioned, always ask for copyright symbol and any other credits. links, etc.
People are generally super-appreciative.
On the other hand it’s good to weed out the “fishers”….!

Thankful for this group; I sure admire all of the beautiful work each one of you has.

I did indicate to her that I had a lot of questions, at least trying to convey to her that there was more to consider in this. Maybe she's getting the idea!

I wouldn't be surprised, Gail! However, I followed up her initial request with questions on class details and image use, and she did get back to me with more info. We'll see if she goes quiet after my request for a minor usage fee.

I believe I was asked by this same person (it sounds familiar), I said no, as she had such a tight deadline and I didn't think we'd have time to sort out usage rights and fees. I did not receive a reply, so I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, she was fishing for a freebie.

I might suggest a bit more than a token amount. Profits can be surprisingly high with those classes (though the prof may not see it) and your work is being used to "sell" the class. I'd ask if the prof is paying or if it's a marketing expense for the course.

Hello all,

I have been approached by a professor at a state university who is teaching conservation classes to the public through the university extension program ($250 enrollment fee), and she would like to use an image of mine for poster promotion of the classes. I will occasionally grant free single-use of my art in situations where the educational program is volunteer driven, or not-for profit, but this seems like it warrants a usage fee (even if only a token amount). Any advice/suggestions? Your range for a fee like this?

Many thanks!
-Natalya
