Thank you for noticing, Chris - and for all your collective thumbs up! The art was originally done for Astronomy magazine a few years ago, for their first Milky Way special issue. Discover is reusing the art (I so love reuse!). Astronomy is too, having just put out a new Milky Way special. You can learn more and order here:

FYI, Scientific American commissioned a pair of graphics for its August issue - the topic is the galaxy’s dark matter halo - so you can keep your eyes open for that too.
