Job Title: Visual Resources Assistant

Location: Frontcountry locations, backcountry locations, and locations adjacent to but outside of the park boundary.
Project Duration: Fall 2018 Spring/Fall 2019 - Hours per Week: Varies
Description of Duties:
- Will travel throughout the park to capture the incredible beauty of the park through photography.
- Works with a small team to conduct visual resource inventories of Glacier National Park's scenic views including views at most risk for change, important to visitors, important to the park's interpretive themes and important historic or cultural views.
- Completes data collection documentation, including photos, associated with each viewpoint.
- Learn and use field techniques to perform visual resource inventories.
- Understand methodology for assessing and protecting visual resources in the national park system.
- Experience and document locations in Glacier that have iconic, unique or cultural visual significance that are a central component to the management and visitor experience of Glacier.
Goals/Outcome of Job:
- Develop a visual resource inventory for Glacier National Park.
- The inventory will help inform internal discussions on park plans and developments or changes to existing developments that may impact scenic, cultural, and natural resources.
- Inform comments and discussions with park neighbors about activities outside the park that affect park resources.
- Must have basic photography skills.
- Ability to use GPS device, compass, and camera supplied by the park.
- Ability to safely hike day trips on uneven terrain including in backcountry setting.
- Work is in the field and requires the volunteer to hike up to 10 miles a day and provide their own transportation, backpack, appropriate footwear, and clothing for a variety of weather conditions.
- Must be able to apply backcountry safety procedures and comply with park safety protocols.
- Must have housing, as none is provided by the park.
- Must attend training in September 25-27 (1 day classroom/1 field day).
