Dear colleagues,

On the occasion of Beethoven’s anniversary in 2020, the Beethoven-Haus Bonn is hosting an international conference Beethoven Perspectives. Five main symposia (with invited speakers) are planned, featuring the topics The Political Beethoven, A global Beethoven?, Beethoven in Bonn, Creative Beethoven, Beethoven’s Reception of other Composers; in addition, the academy project Beethovens Werkstatt is organizing the symposium Sketches as Workshop Documents: Creative Processes in Comparison. We would like to thank the Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien for funding the congress. Languages are German and English.

Free papers will deepen the subjects of all main symposia as well as extend and enrich the range of the conference program. You are invited to submit proposals for papers on topics related to current Beethoven research (e.g. analysis and interpretation, performance practice, philological and genetic questions, biographical topics, Beethoven’s context and networks, Beethoven reception) as well as papers referring to Beethoven from related disciplines, such as literature, history, history of art, philosophy and aesthetics, music theory, sociology of music or ethnomusicology. Free papers should follow the usual presentation format (20 minute presentation, 10 minute discussion). Please submit an abstract (up to 3,500 characters) and a brief biography (up to 1,500 characters) in English or German as pdf file on ConfTool: www.beethoven.de/de/termine/view/5163317375008768/Beethoven-Perspektiven.

The closing date is 1 June 2019. Notifications will be sent by the end of August. Travel and accommodation expenses (2nd class train journey, economy class flight) will be reimbursed depending on available funds. All lectures are intended to be published in Schriften zur Beethoven-Forschung. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me: siegert -at- beethoven.de.

With best wishes,

Christine Siegert
