The Amherst College Department of Music invites applications for a two-year
full-time visiting position in composition at the rank of assistant,
associate, or full professor, beginning July 1, 2020. Within the last
decade, Amherst College has profoundly transformed its student body in
terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and nationality, among other
areas. Today, nearly one-quarter of Amherst’s students are Pell Grant
recipients; 45 percent of our students identify as domestic students of
color. Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at
teaching and mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to
race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual
orientation, and religion. In seeking a colleague who thrives in the
interdisciplinary context of a vibrant liberal arts college, we invite
applications from specialists in composition, broadly defined, and who can
offer introductory and advanced courses in composition, courses in
musicianship, theory, or other subjects required for the music major, and
who can supervise senior composition projects in a variety of musical
styles. The teaching load is two courses per semester. The successful
candidate must have a Ph.D. or D.M.A. in hand by the start of the
appointment. A cover letter, CV, teaching statement, and a list of three
references who may be asked to submit recommendation letters should be
submitted electronically to https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__apply.interfolio.com_68287&d=DwIFaQ&c=Cu5g146wZdoqVuKpTNsYHeFX_rg6kWhlkLF8Eft-wwo&r=PHu0YcldevQqIedM86l0iexbqE-AeZLl-lupNToNx6I&m=GgCQaec73xmBkInYbrtvNPKHKDHD2y5w7Pu9ggru-SI&s=NKcGvG9tX_91fnIonrsHKRW_HeKzDVILn6M7783xfH4&e= . We invite
applicants to submit up to three examples of creative work at

Review of applications will
begin on December 6, 2019, and continue until the position is filled.

Amherst College is an equal opportunity employer and encourages women,
persons of color, and persons with disabilities to apply. The college is
committed to enriching its educational experience and its culture through
the diversity of its faculty, administration, and staff.
