The Las Vegas Baroque Festival is pleased to announce its conference on
April 2–5, 2020 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

The LVBF is a semiannual series of concerts, lectures, paper readings, and
other events related to music composed between 1600 and 1750. Conference
attendees are invited to attend the Festival Concerts, including featured
performances by Ensemble Phoenix (Munich) and Modern Medieval (New York).

The 2020 theme is “Baroque Voices.” The Program Committee welcomes
proposals for 30-minute slots from diverse perspectives and formats,
including individual papers, multi-presenter panels, discussion forums,
lecture-recitals, etc. Harpsichords and a fotepiano will be available, and
our concert organ or a positiv can be used if necessary.

The theme itself may be broadly interpreted. Possibilities include, but are
not limited to, the following:

Baroque composers’ treatment of the human voice
Baroque singers and their education, technique, ornamentation, personas,
etc.
Baroque vocal repertoires
The notion of personal voice in the baroque period (composerly voice,
women’s voices, minority voices)
Themes of voice in musical works or institutions (the “voice of the King,”
the “voice of the people”)
Performance practice
Instruction and pedagogy
Programming and practical concerns for current performing groups

To propose a presentation, submit the following to jonathan.r.lee -at-
unlv.edu:
A cover sheet indicating the proposal title, format, and specialty/title of
the presenter(s)
An abstract not exceeding 200 words
A brief biography of all presenters involved
A list of required audio-visual equipment/instruments (including
temperament/pitch requests for keyboards)

FESTIVAL CHORUS
We are excited to offer a festival chorus. Singers are welcome to apply to
the festival chorus, which will perform a work on the last day (Sunday

of the UNLV choral ensembles. Rehearsals will be in the mornings and will
not conflict with other festival performances or conference presentations.
We welcome singers of all experience and interest levels to learn more
about Baroque music. The festival chorus registration fee is $75. This fee
is waived for conference registrants. Interested singers should complete
