The first international conference on the Eurovision Song Contest to be hosted in Australia will take place at the country's oldest university and one of its most prestigious, The University of Sydney, 15-17 April 2020. The conference will focus on both the ESC in its 65th year: its history, its music, its languages, its production values—and its politics!—and the 6th year of Australian participation in the contest.

The conference opening plenary featuring international keynote speaker Ivan Raykoff as well as local academics, musicians and broadcasters, will take place at the iconic Sydney Conservatorium of Music, not far from the equally iconic Sydney Opera House, and two recent anthologies on the ESC edited by Australian academics: Eurovision and Australia: Interdisciplinary Perspectives from Down Under (Hay and Carniel eds 2019), and Eurovisions: Identity and the International Politics of the Eurovision Song Contest since 1956 (Kalman, Wellings & Jacotine eds 2019), both published by Palgrave, will be celebrated at the conference.
