Subject: Donation of surplus material

Dear all,

Some of you may have seen a flyer that was kindly shared by Maureen Turcatel
during her presentation and posted by Christy Bills (thanks, girls!) at the
ECN in St. Louis, and I was advised to have it posted it here too, so here
it goes.
I recently took up a position as a professor at UFRN, in Natal,
northeastern Brazil, and as such I am also the curator of the local
entomological collection. Some previous inventories indicated about 20,000
curated insects (2012), mostly Orthoptera, Lepidoptera and Coleoptera from
the Brazilian semi-arid (caatinga) and from the Amazon, although I estimate
more. It does need some serious work: currently, both the dry and wet
collections are in instant coffee jars and tupperware, and preserved with
naphthalene (see pictures). We are really starting re-curation from
scratch: all we have is a room at a (new!) scientific collections building,
but we have zero resources for furniture or supplies.

I am thus putting up this call. If you have surplus to donate, please
contact me! Everything helps:
- curation supplies: pins, minuten, label/archival paper, cards, triangles,
punches, coverslips;
- organization and storage: unit trays (at this point any size is good),
slide boxes, Schmitt boxes; and if you have furniture or optical equipment
we may be able to work something out;
- educational material: posters, books, models, etc.

I can provide a *paypal *account. Following feedback suggestions, I also
set up this gofundme campaign to raise money to help paying for shipping
costs and, if we are lucky, to acquire adequate drawers and cabinets.

the call to my cell phone in Brazil).
My PhD advisor, Jim Woolley at Texas A&M, has offered to help as a US
"hub", so here's his contact info if you want to help me continue to keep
annoying him even after graduation
