I save all my images at their highest resolution and as either a PSD or TIFF file. Then I do a SAVE AS if I need a JPG or PNG. That way you can always go back to an uncompressed, full resolution version of the image if you need a different version/file format in the future.

Keep in mind that if you work on a JPG image and if you save repeatedly, it “throws away” data each time you save due to lossy compression. Saving once or twice won’t make a visible difference, but if you do it a lot, you loose information. You can Google this to see examples of how JPG images degrade with repeated saving.
