Non-NU Email Longy School of Music of Bard College Online MM/ME Faculty Job Description: Status: Part-Time Exempt (Adjunct) Reports To: Program Director for Online MM/ME Supervises: N/A Qualifications • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Music Education, or a related field preferred • Prior teaching experience in a graduate or undergraduate program or corporate training program, particularly to adult students, is preferred • Prior experience teaching in a fully online setting with evidence of positive student outcomes. Skills and Knowledge Required • Excellent computer skills and facility with multiple types of operating systems, peripheral accessories, and software programs; familiarity with BrightSpace learning management system is a plus. • Ability to deliver course outcomes and content asynchronously through a variety of teaching/learning styles • Respect for students and a genuine interest in their learning. • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. • Good organizational skills and timeliness in responding to student inquiries. • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with students and colleagues. Duties and Responsibilities • Design asynchronous, online teacher education courses for delivery, including weekly asynchronous formative and summative assignments, discussion posts, blog posts. • Use Longy’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials, and communicate with students. • Facilitate asynchronous, online learning, including leading and moderating online discussions of course material via discussion posts and web chats. • Evaluate and select texts and instructional materials. • Create and record instructional lectures and videos that will be posted within assigned coursework for asynchronous student access. • Participate in professional development seminars pertaining to online course development and delivery. • Submit developed online courses for review and approval to the Program Director. • Evaluate student papers, projects, tests and other assessments. • Edit and refresh course content as needed, to adapt with development of new technologies and software. • Participate in weekly scheduled online virtual office hours with students. • Respond to student inquiries in a timely manner.
