We are delighted to announce that the programme for the 2021 joint plenary conference of the Society for Musicology in Ireland (SMI) and the Irish Chapter of the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM Ireland) is now available here:
The event will be fully digital and takes place from 27 to 30 May 2021. It will be hosted by the Department of Music, Trinity College Dublin, in collaboration with the Irish Traditional Music Archive.

The conference will feature more than 100 papers, lecture recitals, and roundtables given by an international range of scholars covering many areas of music, including cultural and analytical musicologies, ethnomusicology, performance practice, and sonic arts. In addition, it features four plenary events:
- Thursday, 27 May, at 18:00: Professor Harry White (University College Dublin): Joint SMI-ICTM Plenary Lecture.
- Friday, 28 May, 19:00: Professor Thérèse Smith (University College Dublin): ICTM-Ireland’s inaugural Oirdhearchas Award and keynote lecture.
- Saturday, 29 May, 19:00: Professor Michael Beckerman (Carroll and Milton Petrie Professor of Music & Collegiate Professor of Music, New York University): IRC-Harrison Medal and keynote lecture.
- Friday, 28 May, 16:30: Plenary Roundtable ‘Hearing Struggle: Musical Responses to Times of Crisis in the Czech Lands’
