CFP Deadline: November 1, 2021
Conference Dates: April 18-23, 2022https://blogs.uoregon.edu/musicking/
University of Oregon School of Music and Dance, Eugene, Oregon
The University of Oregon School of Music and Dance presents the seventh annual Musicking conference: “Musicking: Culturally Informed Performance Practices” in Eugene, OR, April 18-23, 2022. The conference brings together research, education, and performance by considering performance practices and performance practice studies through a cultural lens. In honor of the work of Musicking Artistic Director Marc Vanscheeuwijck, upon his retirement from the UO, the 2022 conference will feature workshops, lecture performances, academic panels and evening concerts focused on music, composers, and performance practices in and around Bologna and Naples. This year’s conference includes a keynote address by Guido Olivieri (University of Texas at Austin), and a performance of Giovanni Paolo Colonna’s oratorio, “La profezia d’Eliseo” (Modena, 1686).
The Musicking committee welcomes proposals addressing all aspects of musicological research and performance practice studies relevant to Bologna, Naples, and their surrounding areas, not only from a purely historical point of view, but also from a broader cultural perspective. Applicants are encouraged to blur the academic distinctions of musicology, ethnomusicology, music theory, education, modern performance practices, historical performance practices, and other academic fields, and consider their topic through a lens of musicking, in all its possible facets. Especially welcome are presentations and performances that address socio-cultural factors such as race, gender, sexuality, and class, as well as those that feature the music or musical practices of under-represented populations. The Musicking committee also invites proposals for lecture performances. This year, the Musicking committee will grant one lecture-performance applicant an award of up to $1000 to assist in travel and lodging costs.
